EUROSPINE 2009 – Warsaw
On 21–24 October 2009, Warsaw hosted one of the most important European congresses devoted to the treatment of spinal disorders – EuroSpine 2009, organised by the Spine Society of Europe (SSE). The event took place at the Palace of Culture and Science, where its stately interiors hosted both scientific sessions and an international medical exhibition.
Bringing the EuroSpine Congress to Poland was the result of several years of consistent efforts on the international stage, based on cooperation between European and Polish leaders in the field of spinal treatment.
On the Polish side, a key role in the organization was played by LfC, which actively supported both the preparatory process and the execution of the congress. Its president, Lechosław F. Ciupik, a member of the Spine Society of Europe (SSE), participated in international talks and organizational efforts to facilitate the hosting of the EuroSpine congress in Poland. Director Izabela Cęcek was responsible for preparing the strategic documentation and coordinating the exhibition and technical aspects.
In scientific and substantive terms, the Polish community was represented by members of the SSE: Prof. Daniel Zarzycki, President of the Polish Society of Spine Surgery, and Prof. Andrzej Maciejczak, who ultimately took on hosting the congress. Their expertise and professional authority significantly enhanced the validity of the Polish bid and contributed to the outstanding quality of the scientific agenda.
Representatives of the Spine Society of Europe from Belgium – Prof. Robert Gunzburg and Prof. Marek Szpalski – also played an essential role in the decision-making process, actively supporting the Polish candidacy and recommending it within the association.
Thanks to the joint commitment of SSE leaders, Polish medical experts and organisational and technical teams, EuroSpine 2009 in Warsaw became the first Polish edition of this prestigious congress. The event attracted several thousand participants from around the world and was highly rated in terms of organisation and science.
In retrospect, EuroSpine 2009 remains a landmark momentin the history of Polish medicine and a prime example of successful collaboration between the scientific, clinical, and industrial sectors in delivering a world-class international event.
