EuroSpine 2009 in Poland

A joint success for Polish members of the Spine Society of Europe (SSE) and LfC EuroSpine 2009—Europe’s leading congress on spinal disorders—was held in Warsaw, marking a landmark event for Polish spinal surgery and medical bioengineering.

The idea was conceived at a meeting of the Board Members of the Spine Society of Europe (SSE) and the president of LfC, Lechosław Ciupik, a member of the SSE, in Brussels in November 2004. After discussing Poland as the venue for the congress, a phone call was made to Prof. D. Zarzycki (SSE) and Prof. A. Maciejczak (SSE), who accepted the proposal. Poland’s bid was officially submitted to the SSE office in Geneva in 2005 and put to a vote by SSE members at the SSE General Assembly during EuroSpine 2005 in Barcelona. Poland’s candidature was presented in Barcelona by Prof. A. Maciejczak with strong lobbying, logistical, and financial support from friends and employees of LfC. Ultimately, the Poland/Kraków bid won out over Austria/Vienna. Poland was officially selected to host EuroSpine 2009. For logistical reasons (a decision by the SSE Commission), the congress was moved to Warsaw (this was confirmed by Prof. A. Maciejczak’s final presentation in Geneva in 2008).

Individuals involved in organizing the congress on behalf of the LfC: President Lechosław F. Ciupik, General Director Jacek Cęcek, Vice Director for PR and Projects Izabela Cęcek, Marta Ciupik, and others.
